Moving Out Checklist

When moving it is critical to notify relevant groups about your change. Experience suggests that even by using this checklist, it is possible to overlook some main contacts and it is a good idea to commence the process of notifications at least 6 months before the move by using a post-box as a mailing address. This checklist sets out some of the people you should notify.

ADMINISTRATION

The following establishments should receive written notice of your change of address:

  • VicRoads (licence and registration change)

  • Electoral Office

  • Your employer

  • Bank, Building Society, Credit Union, Finance Company

  • Retailer (accounts, credit cards, store accounts, etc.)

  • Life Offices, Insurance Companies

  • Centrelink

  • Local Police Station

  • Libraries, Municipal Office's not already notified, etc

  • Clubs, Societies, Institutions

  • Immigration Department (if applicable)

  • Australian Taxation Office

GENERAL

The following require your attention:

  • Removalists (and/or carrier's insurance)

  • Health/Medical Benefits fund

  • Gas & Power Utilities

  • Local Australia Post Office (redirection of mail)

  • Telephone Companies

  • Colleges and/or schools

  • Friends, relatives, neighbours, etc

  • Doctor, Dentist, Specialists, etc

  • Newsagent
